Many companies have a misconception: they believe that the larger the transformer capacity, the safer it is. In reality, insufficient capacity easily leads to long-term overload; choosing an excessively large capacity results in low utilization, increased no-load losses, and higher daily electricity costs. The core principle of transformer selection is not "the bigger, the better," but rather precise matching to the actual operating conditions of the factory.

 

I. Understanding the Core Function of Transformers

Transformers are used to transform AC voltage, complete power transmission and distribution, convert grid voltage into voltage suitable for workshop equipment, and provide stable power to power equipment and lighting systems. Before purchasing, clarify three points: the required voltage level, the actual power load, and the on-site operating conditions.

II. Five Core Selection Parameters

1. Load and Capacity (Primary Factor)

Do not directly choose a capacity based on an excessively large installed capacity. 1. Insufficient capacity will cause equipment overheating and accelerated insulation aging; excessive capacity will increase no-load losses and waste electricity. When calculating capacity, consider: daily average load, peak electricity consumption, future expansion needs, and load simultaneity factor, finding a balance between safety margin and economical operation.

Inductive loads such as motors and compressors have large starting inrush currents, so short-term overload and voltage drop must be considered; frequency converters and rectifiers generate harmonics, requiring transformers to have harmonic tolerance capabilities. Selection should consider the load type, not just the total capacity.

 

5.Loss efficiency determines long-term costs. Transformers operate continuously year-round; the initial purchase is a one-time investment, but losses incur ongoing costs. Prioritize products with low no-load and low-load losses. This saves on electricity costs, reduces equipment heat generation, and extends service life.

 

6.Short-term overload capacity to handle production fluctuations: Concentrated motor starts and temporary capacity expansions can cause instantaneous power spikes. Rely on overload capacity to handle load fluctuations; do not simply increase capacity to solve peak loads. For production lines with significant peak loads, it is recommended to calculate based on load curves.

1. Pre-installation site survey: Confirm the space of the power distribution room, transportation channels, foundation load-bearing capacity, ventilation and heat dissipation, incoming and outgoing line methods, and maintenance space. For large-capacity transformers, it is essential to assess hoisting and transportation conditions in advance to avoid equipment arriving unsuitable for installation.

 

2. Verify qualifications to ensure safety: Don't just compare prices when purchasing. Verify product execution standards, corresponding CCC/CE certifications, and third-party testing reports. Also, examine the manufacturer's production qualifications, project cases, factory testing capabilities, and after-sales guarantees.
